Healthy Summer Skin

Healthy Summer Skin with Tadawi: How to pick the best skin routine out of all the skin routines out there

Everyone wants radiant, glowing skin but how can we get and maintain that glow during this fuming heat?

Summer is here and given the geographic location of Qatar, the weather is extremely hot, and either dusty or humid depending on the week. This season can be harsh and at times harmful to the skin resulting to open pores and production of excessive sebum.

Protect your skin and prevent damage by checking out the following tips from our Dermatologists at Tadawi Medical Center for that summer glow up.

1. Never underestimate sunscreen.

Always include sunscreen in both your daytime and your nighttime routine. Did you know that the more you are exposed to sun, the faster your sunscreen breaks down? Hence, reapplying sunblock every after 2 hours is one of the healthiest ways to protect and prevent damage on your skin under direct sunlight. UV light is also damaging, so don’t skip the sunscreen in the evening too.

2. Be consistent with a skin care routine.

The internet overflows with skin care routine both for day and nighttime, that can be confusing for someone who isn’t a product junkie, if you want the just of it? Stick with the basics – cleanse, serum, moisturize, sunscreen – but choose products that feel good. Remember that our skin types differ thus, before following a certain skin care routine, it is recommended to consult your dermatologist to know your skin type. It will help you save time and money and years of aging skin!

Here are a few more recommended products by our Dermatologists for your skin care routine.

The Cleanser. It is always best to cleanse your face every morning and night before going to bed to remove make up and dirt.

Koko Cleansing Gel for normal to combined skin.

Koko Cleansing Milk for dry and sensitive skin.

The Serum. Serums are designed to nourish and hydrate skin and is best used after cleansing and before moisturizing. Due to its high concentration, it usually takes shorter time to see the results. Find one that works for you, but here are some of my favorites.

Try our Coverderm Maxydrate Serum, Koko Vitamin E or Koko Aloe Vera Serum to boost the collagen on your face and give it a firmer look. Check out our testers before you pick one for the one that feels like your best match, the Koko Vitamin E is my personal favorite.

The Moisturizer. It creates a barrier between the skin and the climate, It exists to enhance your skin capacity and rehydrates what’s been dried out over the day. Dehydrated skin needs to be avoided at any cost because extreme dryness and oiliness are both a result of dehydration and are the prefect atmosphere to house skin problems. There are so many moisturizers – pick one that feels right, but most importantly works on your skin type which you can find out by visiting a dermatologist.

Health and Beauty Pharmacy offers a selection of moisturizers depending on your skin. Check out the Koko Classic for normal skin, Koko High Classic for dry skin, and Coverderm Maxydrate for oily skin.

The Sunscreen. With the fluctuating dry vs. humid weather in Qatar over the summer, products with light and non-greasy textures are holy grails. Our Dermatologists highly recommend Koko Sunblock SPF 30. Aqua is one of its primary ingredients, is fast penetrating matte cream for face and body¹. It’s extremely light on the skin and doesn’t have that annoying sticky after effect. Another option is HYFAC Sunblock with Moringa Oleifera extract that helps prevent penetration of pollutants into the epidermis2 and is an easy-spread sunscreen that gives you the on-the go look with its dry finishing touch. Yes, dry sunscreen is key for us for any skin type.

3. Lips, eyes, body, and feet.

Remember to moisturize other parts of the body particularly during this hot season to lessen dryness and its long-term effects when untreated. Keep your body hydrated with the Koko Body Cream or Koko Body Lotion. Sunscreen is also recommended on the back of your hands and feet. A hat and sunglasses with UV protection are also great additions especially if you’re out and about in this heat.

You get bonus points for completing your skin care routine with the Koko Eye Cream before bed.

4. Go see your Dermatologist before for maintenance rather than when you have a rash or problem!

It is advisable to visit your trusted Dermatologist at least once month for a skin checkup and to keep up with your monthly or every 6 weeks facial. With the emerging dermatology and cosmetology technologies it’s an opportunity to know what’s new in the field! We have free consultations with our cosmetology services so feel free to use and abuse! If you have a facial you love, stick to it, but we recommend trying different ones to get different variations and types of moisturizing, cleansing and exfoliating.

We’re delighted to be the go-to clinic for facials, dermatology visits and treatment with our founder Dr. Nawal Al-Alem being the first female Dermatologist in Qatar!  Our customers have had outstanding results from the Hydrafacial MD and Carbon Laser, to name a few of our highlight services.

5. Live healthily

It sounds cliché but drinking 8 glasses of water every day is and will always be the top advice – hydrating from the inside out is priceless. Aside from preventing your body from dehydration during the summer, it helps eliminates toxins. The body needs water to stay healthy.

Finally, Dr. Nawal Al-Alem, the Founder of Tadawi Medical Center, gives you her golden advice – nothing beats eating the right type and amount of food, doing exercise at least 20 minutes each or every other day, and GET YOUR SLEEP!
